Nearing the end of day two, having had a Pina Colada (Chantal) and Whisky Sour (Chris), we write this entry. We promise we will get to the cats part very soon.
But first, our first day:
Having unlocked a whole bunch of Hyatt points from Chris’s work travel over the last 12 months, we booked our holiday to Phuket with free accommodation. After 16 hours travel, we arrived at the Hyatt Regency in Phuket early, but the lovely staff worked very hard to let us check in early too.
The Hyatt in Phuket is great – exactly what you’d want for a relaxing getaway in the heart of a tropical island. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly staff and Chantal was given a bracelet made of frangipanis (it smells amazing!).

The biggest feature of our room is having a whole separate “ready room” adjacent from the bathroom where the sinks (yes, there’s a his and hers) and two built in robes. This ready room itself is as big as our room we had at the Novotel in Athens.
So far, we feel like we have been very spoilt!
We went for a walk and checked out the nearby stalls and sights. Nothing of note really happened however this is when we noticed the incredibly dubious power cabling of Phuket. Just see for yourself…

Day two: Cats!
Day two is where the cats are at. After a deep conversation about dreams and property theory over breakfast, we got into a tuk tuk and made our way down to the main road in Kamala. Our mission: to convert some AUD we brought so we have THB to spend.
We had a bit of a wander and made friends with not one, but two cats! The cats are small here, most of them are pregnant (from the looks of it) but they are mostly friendly (and vocal). The beach is also nice.

We found a great money exchange and happened to discover a tailor in the process. There, we were ushered into the tailor’s shop where he practised his hard-sell on Chris for a suit. Eventually, the tailor won and we agreed to three dress shirts. Chris was promptly measured and we were asked to return tomorrow evening for a fitting.
Getting caught in the rain
It started raining and we decided to find some lunch. We found a reasonably busy place, while all the other restaurants were empty, called Pim’s Place. There we tried authentically Thai beef Massaman and vegetable Panang curry.
The Pina Colada was very strong and Chantal got a bit tipsy. Chris thought it was hilarious.
After lunch, we made our way back to the hotel and decided to have another drink at the pool bar. What a day!
The plan for tomorrow: Jungceylon shopping and exploring Patong (the main beach area of Phuket). We hope to make friends with more cats as well.
