Osaka is a trendy city with a strong coffee and food culture. Traveling to Osaka via Shinkansen was seamless, and Dotonbori district offered a bustling amusement park vibe. Exploring local bakeries and a unique hedgehog cafe added more enjoyable experiences to the trip.
Japan Days Three to Five – A City Dedicated to Denuclearisation
We reflect on our journey from Tokyo to Hiroshima, recounting struggles with train ticketing, a heartwarming experience at Hiroshima's train station, and our exploration of the city's history and cuisine. We dedicated a day to the Peace Memorial Museum before venturing to Itsukushima, where we enjoyed the island's tranquillity and local treats.
Japan Day Two – Big Cat Bang
After a high step count day, we opted for a relaxed morning at a local café before catching a Kabuki show at Ginza Kabuki-za. The Skylight performance depicted family life, and we also stumbled upon the impressive Big Cat Bang art installation. Finally, we visited teamLab Planets for an interactive art experience.
Japan Day One – From Planning a Trip to Arriving in Tokyo Japan
After a five-year hiatus from international travel (excluding the move to New Zealand), we meticulously planned our Japan trip for 5 months, carefully considering our priorities and desires. Upon arrival in Tokyo, we smoothly navigated immigration, transportation, and obtained SIM cards. We explored Ueno Park, visited a museum, and ventured into the bustling Akihabara Electric Town. Finally, we relaxed at a cat cafe before enjoying a fusion ramen dinner.
Italy Day Eleven and Twelve – Cold, Wet, and Hungry
Chris becomes a lemon, we make the most of bad weather and eat some delicious pasta.
Italy Day Ten – Wine and Dine
We learn how to cook and drink wine the authentic Bolognese way.
Italy Day Eight and Nine – Leg Day
The days that we ate all the pasta and killed our legs in Florence.
Italy Day Seven – The Hill and the Opera
We saw some Roman ruins, ate pizza and watched a famous Verdi opera.
Italy Day Six – My Arch of Triumph is Bigger Than Yours
We got rained on at the Colosseum, saw the world's largest Arch of Triumph and ate tiramisu.
Italy Day Five – Cats and too much food
Our trip is rated 10/10 for cats. We also experienced being too full with pizza.
