Italy Day One – Napoli and Pizza

A few things everyone must know about Italy before we get started into our holiday. Italy is 8 hours behind Brisbane time which means we travelled back in time to get here.

As soon as we arrived into Rome airport, we quickly bought some SIM cards so that we can stay connected across Italy. As we took the train from the airport to Roma Termini and then on to Napoli, we realised that Italians do not like people who are early. We were 20 minutes early for our train to Napoli and the information for the platform wasn’t released until 10 minutes until departure.

Chris has already been mistaken for a local. We don’t know if it’s the hook nose or the chinos he is wearing but it was pretty funny (and awesome because he knew the answer as well).

We made our way to Napoli and checked in to our hotel (Albergo Hotel del Golfo) which is an old building which looks like it’s in the middle of being restored. It certainly has character but the important parts of a comfortable bed and good shower are all there. This is our stay for the next few days.

After dumping our luggage in our room, we made our way to a nearby supermarket to stack up on snacks and bottled water for the next few days.

We then went for a pizza at a Michelin recognised pizza restaurant, Pizzeria Antonia e Gigi Sorbillo. We ordered a Capricciosa and Mendial pizza and some glasses of Prosecco. OMG they were amazing! The service was fantastic,  food was delicious, and all under 25 euro. Definitely a great start to our tour of Italy!

At this point we were starting to get delirious from exhaustion and jetlag but we persevered to a nearby gelato place. On our way there, we took in the sights, smells and sounds of Napoli at night. Things were getting pretty groovy as tomorrow (25 April) is a public holiday for Italy – Liberation Day. We also stumbled upon a market which featured a lot of books.

When we found a gelato place, Chantal ordered an apple sorbet while Chris had a cone of stracciatella ice cream.

We wondered back to our hotel where we collapsed.
